| 05-15-24 | Eric Hilton | USS TAYLOR DD-468 | CS-3 | 1967-1969 | I was a CS-3 Commesary man while serving on Taylor. I also started the ships band with my fellow shipmate, radioman Don Vannucci, a very fine cornet player, and I played guitar. We got to perform in many of the ports we hit, including Australia, Pago Pago, Japan and Hawaii. But we also got to perform when we would unrep with the tankers and carriers. After our last West pack we sailed to CA for decommissioning, where I was then sent orders to serve aboard the USS Truxtun DLGN-35. A strange looking ship, and being nuclear, it had no smoke stacks. She was beautiful, larger crew, fast and all new appointments. But she didn't have the same family feeling as we had on the Taylor. We on the Taylor, were smaller and a tighter bunch of guys. | ||
| 05-26-24 | Bob Cashin | LTjg | Any Taylor Sailor who may be interested in a "social" reunion please let me or Jim O'Neill know. Probably would be somewhere in Virginia, as was the canceled 2022 reunion. At this point, we are just trying to see what level of interest there may be. Jim monitors this message board. Thanks, Bob | ||||
| 06-10-24 | Lindsay Hochsprung | CHIEF DAMAGE CONTROLMAN ON LST 468 IN THE PACIFIC THEATER. | (701) 240-0717 | I just found out that my great uncle was a CHIEF DAMAGE CONTROLMAN ON LST 468 IN THE PACIFIC THEATER. | |||
| 09-09-24 | Philip M Daniels | USS Taylor DDE 468 | GMG3 | 66-67 | My husband, Phil Daniels, passed away 10 August 2024. He was buried in Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA with full military honors. I've been looking through his Westpac Cruise books for 1966 and 1967. I've matched some commenters with their long ago pictures, including Mr. Hines's photo right next to Phil's in the 1966 roster.Thank you for your service, gentlemen. ~Beckie Daniels | ||
| 11-14-25 | Mr. Richard Rogars | A Member of Family | I served in a different Service Branch. | A Family member did serve on this "Fletcher class Destroyer," between the years 1942 to 1945. It seems that the Ship Personal, performed as a "team." We say that because, during this ship's time in the Pacific Theater of the War, they "did not lose a man." (I did send an e-mail message to this sight, one time before). (While this ship's personal did support each other, after three and a half years of "combat in War," there was unseen damage sadly, to these brave American Service members. Thank you. | |||
